REOPENING TOBERMORY UNITED CHURCH…

With the changes in the Reopening Ontario Legislation, discussions have recently been held by the Reopening Committee and Church Council as to how Tobermory United Church will move forward with re-opening. There is no perfect answer about how to proceed in a way that doesn't inconvenience someone. We understand that the decisions moving forward will be embraced by some, while others will feel disappointment. However, as the governing body of Tobermory United Church, we are looked to as being leaders in our community, and we believe we have come up with a plan that will be inclusive to as many as possible, while protecting our staff, volunteers, congregation, visitors and user groups.

So, effective Monday, November 29, 2021, protocols at Tobermory United Church will be as follows:
  • Proof of double vaccination to COVID-19 and personal identification will be required for all who enter the church, in accordance with O.Reg. 364/20 (with the exception of St. Thomas the Apostle worship services, where their Bishop has mandated that no one attending any of their services shall be asked for proof of vaccination).
  • Masks will continue to be required inside the church.
  • Passive screening of COVID-19 symptoms will continue.
  • Everyone is required to sanitize upon entering and leaving the building.
  • a contact list continues to be kept for those entering the church.
  • the capacity of the church is limited to the number of people who can continue to socially distance at a 2-metre distance from ‘bubbles of the same household’.
  • pews will continue to be roped off to ensure social distancing occurs.
  • Coats will continue to remain with the owner rather than be hung up at the back.
  • No social gatherings with food or drink allowed.
  • User groups will be asked to bring their own equipment and remove their belongings when they leave.
  • The pop-up choir, guest singers and musicians may continue to perform without masks from a safe distance away from the congregation, which remains at 18 feet.
  • The congregation will be allowed to sing along with hymns with masks on, and hymn books will be returned to the pews.
  • Fogging will continue before and after gatherings of more than five (5) people.
Please note that we will continue to re-visit protocols as the nature of the pandemic changes over time.

We look forward to welcoming our user groups back to Tobermory United Church…we have missed you! Val Scott, our User Group Liaison, will be contacting the user groups who met at the church prior to the start of the pandemic before November 29th, as new procedures are being introduced for those using the church. For those groups electing not to re-enter the church at this time, you are welcomed to continue using our parking lot or overhang to meet.

We appreciate your understanding as we move forward with our reopening. Thank you ALL for helping to keep each other safe.
